Introducing the Tubot

As stated in my previous post, the rest of the semester in SMU’s First Year Engineering design class will be spent building an autonomous robot. If you haven’t already, read my previous post for a link to the project specifications and a summary of what is expected of us.

Last week, we  presented a high level design of the robot to our professors, the guidelines for which can be found here. In summary, we were supposed to develop alternatives for major mechanical functions of the robot as well as produce an overall layout, electrical block diagram, UML activity diagram, and architectural block diagram.

This class is incredibly fast paced, and it was amazing to me that we came to class one day, and suddenly had one week to completely design a robot that we would spend the next three months building; nonetheless, each and everyday I am extremely grateful for everything I am learning through this project, and this makes me all the more aware of how SMU’s Lyle School of Engineering cares about setting its students up for future success.

Until next time,
